Please use this for chatting, and shoutbox for general discussion and announcments. In many ways, IRC is more suited to chatting.
----
We set up an IRC channel for the wiki to use. It means everyone can chat to each other, similar to Xat, although this is official.

Steps
Reserving your IRC name
For users who are new to IRC, it is much like the Shout box, apart from the fact that the chat auto-refreshes each time there is new activity. Here are the steps.
In order to prevent impersonation, you should register (or reserve) your name. To do this:
#Use /msg nickserv register your_password your_email
#Check your email for the confirmation email. Use the command you receive to confirm the registration. If you do not do this, the registration will be automatically dropped after a few hours.
#Every time you connect to the channel, use /msg nickserv identify your_password to log in.

#Click on this link.
Rights and Permissions
#Type up your username in the corresponding box. IRC is not connected to Wikia directly, so you can type up different names, but make sure not to impersonate someone - because we can find out who you are.
Operators
#Type in #wikia-clubpenguin in the channels box, if it is not already there.
Operators are users who have extra abilities on the IRC channel. The wiki's Administrators are the operators. Ops can kick users from the chat, ban users from the chat, and set the channel topic. All operators have the @ symbol next to their names.<br>

Moderators
Moderators are users who are not administrators, but can temporarily make themselves operators to do something. These are trusted users who will do something when the normal operators are not around. Moderators are unmarked on the channel. The following users listed are moderators.

Operators is a power in IRC that will be given to the wiki's Administrators. System ops can kick users from the chat, ban users from the chat, and change the channel settings. They are able to make other users Operators also. To learn more about what system operators do, ask an op in the channel.

The Club Penguin Wiki also has a channel exclusively available to administrators, called #wikia-clubpenguin-admin. All administrators automatically are OPped and therefore non-admins cannot enter. It is used to discuss various wiki topics, before they are released to the community.

"Bots" are non-human processes that will automatically do things, such as auto kick someone. They sometimes may be opped to use restricted commands, and sometimes may not be. Please note that they are not actual people and are automated processes/programs. If you have a bot, you need approval before you can use it in the channel. For most approvals, you should try to contact Seahorseruler. Approved bots are listed below.
If you own an IRC client, such as ChatZilla, mIRC, or Colloquy, you may use the following link to connect to irc.

*CPW-Bot - Operated by User:Seahorseruler (Command list). Info: Used for Recent Changes feed on the channel and basic operations.
*[irc://irc.freenode.net/clubpenguinwiki irc://irc.freenode.net/clubpenguinwiki]
*ChanServ - Automatically there by default, not owned by anyone on the channel. ChanServ is a bot that the irc network (freenode) has in every channel to do certain things.
*Nifkeh - Run by Nifky.

Alternative ways to get to chat
*If the normal channel isn't working, then log onto the "Wikia" channel (#wikia), and when you're on, please type this in: /join #wikia-clubpenguin-full. This is the wiki's alternative channel.

----
Due to COPPA Laws, and IRC's Terms and Conditions, users must be above the age of 13 to register, but you may join legally under that age and just chat. This also applies to registering on Wikia sites, so it shouldn't affect anyone.

 1. On Special:WebChat, fill out the Captcha.
 2. Hit connect.
 3. Chat and follow the rules.

Reserving your IRC name

In order to prevent impersonation, you should register (or reserve) your name. To do this:

 1. Use /msg nickserv register your_password your_email
 2. Check your email for the confirmation email. Use the command you receive to confirm the registration. If you do not do this, the registration will be automatically dropped after a few hours.

Rights and Permissions

Operators

Operators are users who have extra abilities on the IRC channel. The wiki's Administrators are the operators. Ops can kick users from the chat, ban users from the chat, and set the channel topic. All operators have the @ symbol next to their names.

Legend:
Super Op - Ops who also have the ability to promote/demote other ops and change channel settings and configuration (usually bureaucrats are made super ops).
Channel Founder user who has full access to the channel and is set as the channel owner. Only Seahorse has this ability.

Moderators

Moderators are users who are not administrators, but can temporarily make themselves operators to do something. These are trusted users who will do something when the normal operators are not around. Moderators are unmarked on the channel. The following users listed are moderators.

 • Nifky (hurr)
 • Refractor
 • stanley

Voice

Voiced users have no extra abilities on the channel. They are just trusted channel regulars who have been marked as trusted. They have a + symbol next to their name. We do not keep an updated list of voiced users.

Bots

Bots are automated processes that help us run the channel or do tasks. Only approved bots may run on the channel, and they are:

 • CPWRC - A CVN Recent Changes monitoring bot that notifies the channel when edits that may be vandalism are made, or if an action is performed that trips one of the filters set. The bot has different filters that can be set to monitor specific users, pages, etc. For a list of commands, see CPWRC.
 • UtilityBot - A bot that is on every CPWN IRC channel, which is used by staff and other trusted users to set global IRC bans, send out global notices, etc. A command list is not publicly available.

Alternative ways to connect to our channel

If you own an IRC client, such as ChatZilla, mIRC, or Colloquy, you may use the following link to connect to irc.
