An .swf ("Shockwave Flash" or "Small Web Format") is a flash extension file used by the Club Penguin Team when designing rooms, player cards, penguins, games etc. When you open a .swf room (for example, like this .swf file), no penguins appear, because it is just a local .swf file.
History
- When Club Penguin started, the only .swfs were the rooms.
- After the Spanish, French and Portuguese servers came, the .swfs turned into only Spanish, French and Portuguese and barely any .swfs are English.
- Every .swf has a version for each language. If editing a Spanish .swf, the letters would appear in English. When saving, they will appear Spanish. To get the English words, you would have to delete the other language layers.

Trivia
- All penguins in .swf's are the color dark black.
- Everything in Club Penguin has an .swf file.
- Some .swfs are deleted when they will not be used again.
- The .swf's of the games just shows one color, everything else in the game is hidden in the script of the .swf, that tells it to not show a frame unless it is a real game.
- The .swf backgrounds of the music are white because they are not combined with their picture counterpart that the music goes with.
- However, there is one remaining .swf of Penguin Chat 3 with both music and a picture, which is the PC3 igloo.
- The flash.swf keeps Club Penguin running.
- The Club Penguin Team deletes old .swf files, probably because they need more space.
- Cheating devices such as CP Trainer and Penguin Storm are made using flash .swfs.
- Most .swfs are not deleted, they are updated, like the Town on the map.
- When the April Fools Day 2009, Safari Hat Pin and the Music Jam 2009 and toy sailboat pin came out too early it made some of the items unavailable.
- Some games in .swf form are unavailable in Club Penguin.
- On the Exclusive Rockhopper Background .swf there is an uncolored puffle and Rockhopper's signature.
- If you try to type "undefined" for either a penguin name or password, an orange box will pop up, displaying the message "You need to enter your username/password to enter Club Penguin". This is because flash considers "undefined" a null object (basically, it would be the same if you typed nothing).
- Club Penguin is made with Adobe Flash.
- When something in Club Penguin is changed or updated, the .swf automatically updates itself.
- shell.swf has 9162 lines of code.
- The Halloween Party 2009 .swfs were released too early.
- Club Penguin does not delete their music .swfs.
