The Penguin Cup is a soccer-themed party on Club Penguin. It started on June 18, 2014 and will end on July 1, 2014. The event takes place during the same time as the 2014 FIFA World Cup that is held in Brazil. Red, Blue, Yellow and Green team got official names and logos prior to the party.

History

The party was confirmed on March 10, 2014 via a meetup on Club Penguin. ^[1] Again on March 22, 2014, Spike Hike mentioned it ^[2]. On April 23, 2014, Polo Field mentioned it in a tweet ^[3]. On May 7, 2014, a sneak peek was revealed on the membership page ^[4]. On May 15, the Spanish blogger Tato Maxx showed a men with a draft for plush toys video^[5]. On May 29, Polo Field revealed two sneak peeks of the party on the What's New Blog^[6]. On May 30, the Portuguese blogger Tulip4zul posted on the Portuguese What's New Blog a sneak peek, showing some items that penguin could wear at the party^[7].

On June 5, a new ad on the Club Penguin's homepage, login and exit screens officially revealed when the party will start and end. On the same day, Tato Maxx revealed another sneak peek for the plush toys video, showing the film set^[8]. On June 6, the official video trailer was posted on Club Penguin's Youtube channel. On the same day, Polo Field revealed a sneak peek, showing that the Beach will be the HQ of the Blue Team during the party and the shark will be the mascot^[9]. Megg replied Polo Field saying that the mascot for the Green Team will be a squid and showing a free item that will be available at the party and that the Dock will be the HQ for the Green Team^[10]. On June 9, the episode #23 of The Spoiler Alert showed a sneak peek of the Snow Forts during the construction.

On June 10, Megg revealed on the What's New Blog a sneak peek of the shoot-out soccer minigame that penguins will play during the party^[11]. On June 11, Polo Field also confirmed that Aunt Arctic will be visiting during the party^[12]. On the same day, the Portuguese blogger Gajotz posted some items that will be available at the party^[13]. On June 13, a sneak peek video was posted on the What's New Blog, showing the rooms, the items and the map^[14]. The plush toys video was also posted on June 13 in the Spanish and Portuguese Club Penguin's Youtube channel. On June 16, the episode #24 of The Spoiler Alert showed some sneak peeks of the rooms, the minigame and the items. A day later, on June 17, the UK Club Penguin Team posted a video on Youtube about the party.

In-game development

On June 5, the Stadium replaced the Ice Rink and, according to the issue #450 of the Club Penguin Times, the soccer season had kicked-off. On June 12, Aunt Arctic announced in issue #451 of the newspaper that the Club Penguin Sports Network will cover every match of the Penguin Cup, and she need reporters. On the same day, the construction for the party started at the Snow Forts and in the Stadium.

There are four participating teams for the Penguin Cup. Each team is given a team name - the first time this has happened in Club Penguin.

Shootouts

Shootouts is a temporary minigame introduced exclusively for this party. This game can be activated by dancing while holding the Penguin Cup Ball. In this game, players have to score as many goals as they can in 40 seconds to score points for their team and to collect points to redeem for items. Members can redeem points for shoes which allow them to shoot the ball faster, allowing them to score more goals in the allotted time.
