Club Penguin Wiki:Archive/Proposal concerning rollbacks
Well, after heavy discussions on IRC, the admins have come to a conclusion, that we will propose to the public. Note that this forum uses roleplay to counter every point against this idea.
Okay so here's how it works:
Sea, Shark, Hat Pop, Wompus, Zapwire and Tigernose all witnessed the discussion, and we are proposing that all rollbacks should be demoted. Sounds shocking? I'll explain why.
You guys still haven't grasped the actual purpose of a rollback. I have said it isn't a rank, but it's so irrelevant to our users it's unneeded. I'll paste exactly what Ajraddatz said:
“ | ::I'd like to point out that rollback is not meant to be some permanent thing. It is designed to be a counter-vandalism tool and should be given to those who undo vandalism. However, it is up to you guys how you use each of the user groups. | ” |

Exactly!
Ratonbat said he is more rollback-active than Hal, and I agree. But he's hardly rollback-active at all! The rollback right is supposed to be given to someone who is going to actually revert vandalism, instead of reverting vandalism occasionally. The rollback right is supposed to be a temporary right, maybe given to a user during a spam-attack, but not to be given to someone because of prestige. No one on this wiki should be a rollback because they don't need to be.
Roleplay example
- User: That's not fair. I'm a rollback, I'll lose it!
- Tigernose: But have you ever needed it? Yes, you might have used it once in a while, but you don't need it.
- User: But I am more active at reverting than rollback X!
- Tigernose: That doesn't matter, you hardly every revert anyways.
- User: What makes you think you're so special?
- Tigernose: I'm not, don't get in a hissy hit about a proposal. It's still going through voting.
- User: Fine, but that's unfair on people who do actually revert vandalism.
- Tigernose: Nobody here actually spends their time with an anti-vandalism program for Wikia, going through pages with a bot performing counter-vandalism.
- User: But what if I come across vandalism, how will I revert it then?
- Tigernose: Ever heard of the undo button? Believe it or not, there are other ways to remove vandalism. The undo tool only removes one edit from a page, but it's all you need usually. There are so many positives for this undo button:
- You can leave an edit summary when undoing a revision, unlike with the rollback tool.
- The rollback tool only can revert the latest vandalism revisions, the undo tool can revert previous revisions on a page.
- User: Wow! I never knew that!
- Tigernose: Furthermore, us admins never even use the rollback tool. We find ourselves using the undo tool more, because we can give reasons in the summary.
- User: So why is the rollback tool even needed for and for who if so?
- Tigernose: As I said, there are users who have this right because they solely make an account on Wikia to counter-vandalise. Plus, admins get this tool included in their sysop package!
- User: So what do we do with it?
- Tigernose: Keep it in the shadows, demote every rollback and if someone willing comes along, we give them right via RfA.
- User: But isn't it unfair on the rollbacks who might get demoted?
- Tigernose: Remember, they can use the undo tool, which in most cases is better.
- User: OH YAH! Thanks dude.
So that's about it guys. Vote nao.
