Portals have been a huge failure. Reforms to them have been promised several times, and nothing has changed. The portals haven't even been updated for months. When a reader sees our main page and clicks "Items", they want lists of items or a way to browse items. They do not want an "image of the day" or "featured item" or any of the other irrelevant nonsense on there. I hate to sound harsh, but nobody cares about any of that. Especially readers.
Therefor, I propose going back to linking to Categories or List Pages from the main page and closing portals.

- Nice at first, but now they're neglected. No real reason to keep them. --

- Waste of time to be honest. The wiki would benefit from this as a whole. Portals would work on a smaller wiki, where a certain category wouldn't be updated as much, but for an ever expanding wiki on an ever expanding subject, it's obvious that we need to get rid of an anchoring way of organization. -Wonderweez (Talk · Contribs) 04:04, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- I thought it was voted to close the portals at the last council meeting lol. Unfortunately, this seems to be another one of those ideas that only benefits when we have a lot more editors (like departments). CK 06:35, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- No. I like those portals and they are interesting cause they provide some information people should know about some items and they have easy "shortcuts" to other pages. I may change my vote later on, but right now i am for against. --Best Wishes, Penstubal 11:41, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- They have shortcuts to no more than ten pages each, that's not a shortcut to anything. Plus, it's loaded with material completely and utterly irrelevant to a viewer. They didn't come here to take a poll or take part in a contest or look at a featured image. --

- And about featured picture/article stuff, it's something which some reader may find interesting, so people probably do really care. --Best Wishes, Penstubal 11:45, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe, but portals are to be used as a homepage for a certain subject, so viewers can decisively go view what they want from there. These portals are designed to look fancy, not to be functional. --

- By the way, look at this poll on that page for example. Look how many people voted. That's more then there are registered users on the wiki. You see, people like our portals and actually care about them. So we should totally keep them. --Best Wishes, Penstubal 12:00, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Our viewers may like them, but when we don't have enough users to actively update them they look sloppy and whatnot. For example, that portal you showed hasn't been edited since 2012 before the rooms were updated. It's not good to have outdated portals, especially when they're some of the first pages a user may see on our wiki. With that being said, I think that maybe they should be brought back some day when we have enough users to comfortably maintain all of them. CK 15:56, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
