Club Penguin Wiki:Archive/Policy Update Proposals

It is nice to see that we have begun reaching out for one another on the wiki this year with official events, talk page communications and more IRC interactions. However the consequence of this is that we have begun to act in a less profsesional manner. I am not trying to curb what we are doing but I feel we just need to straighten ourselves before we veer off course. Here is a list of changes I am submitting to the Council agenda for meeting #11.

Signature Policy Update

MediaWiki has a 255 character limit for signatures, but there has always been a way to get around that by using templates. Templates shouldn't be used to abuse that. I feel strongly that there is no need to use templates but I do know that sometimes it is frustrating when the 255 character limit is hit all due to styling. Stuff happens! However, hitting that limit because you have a really long signature and then using a template to bypass that is not justified. The additions I am proposing to add to the policy are:

• All new signature templates are subject to administrator approval.
• Signatures must be visually no more than 75 characters in length.
• Signature templates are limited to a maximum of one per user.

Official Event Guidelines

Hosts running official events have important responsibilities. When running official events, they are representing the entire wiki, meaning that there should be a level of expectation from the administration and staff of this website. Official events must be run in a professional manner as they are heavily advertised on our social media accounts as well as on site.

• Everybody is invited to our official events. Hosts cannot bar a user from attending.
• The Manual of Style applies to official event pages.
• ALL CAPS may not be used at any time (on IRC or on the official event page).
• Reminders can only be sent out once unless a user requested they get more than one reminder.
• The IRC Policy applies to the IRC channel the official event chat is held in (if not #ClubPenguinWiki).
• Once a start time has been set, it may not be changed in the last 48 hours before the scheduled start. It a postpone is required, it may only be done so if no suitable replacement can be found.
• Events may not start ahead of schedule.

Image Reuploads
Add a small section to the Image Guidelines that reminds users that if they are reuploading an image under an existing filename, the replacement must be an improved version of the old version. If it is the same subject but they don't look the same, they are two different images and should be uploaded in a different filename. It may be a little more work but it is essential to preserving historical images on the wiki.
